MSN Reports that UK newspapers are having a little chuckle about a new book reporting that Obama’s family cost US taxpayers $1.4 billion last year alone, whereas the royal family cost the UK a measly $57.8 million – more than 20 times less than the First Family. Obama’s expenditures include the salaries of his staff and Secret Service, as well as the maintenance of Air Force One, which he’s required to take (and has been using increasingly in this election year).
It is actually more than 20 times if you factor in that the celebrity in chief and his wife spend more time playing than working for the American public. Thus, the American public is short changed by many times their costs!

Time and time again we’ve had discussions on this site about the numerous and costly vacations, extravagant spending, and overall costs associated with this president and his family. Obama touts his belief on redistribution of wealth and taking from the rich (taxing the wealthy more) and giving that money to those that work hard too (or don’t work) but just can’t seem to get ahead. He is all about leveling the playing field. He is about us playing by the rules but the rules do not apply to him.
During the DNC Michelle Obama spoke how she and Barack understand your financial difficulties because they once were poor. We have heard Obama speak about how the rich should be taxed more (so he and Michelle and all their costly staff and Czars can spend their money) again to level the playing field. I find it ironic due to his great fascination with sports. I mean shouldn’t every team be required to have players equal to one another so that we “level the playing field?” That way every team has the same opportunity to win and every loss will only be within a point or two always. In his world it doesn’t matter if you go to college and earn the right to your income, we “need to level the playing field” so that the bum on the street (by his own actions) makes what the doctor makes despite the years of education and costs. Through the taxes on the rich the poor will have the same…. sorry I digress.
Here is the issue with this administration that acts as though they care about the economy, the middle class, the poor, etc… If this is true then why in the world would you spend like money grows on trees? Why would you jet set around costing the American people (who are already suffering as a people and nation right now) with more unnecessary costs? Okay, Okay, I know, he doesn’t really care on the first place.
Obama suffers with a rock star mentality yet has no skill as a rock star except his ability to schmooze and talk a great game.
Is it any wonder that Obama spends more than the Royal Family? Not at all.
The British papers say:
The Daily Caller states: Author Robert Keith Gray writes in “Presidential Perks Gone Royal” that Obama isn’t the only president to have taken advantage of the expensive trappings of his office. But the amount of money spent on the first family, he argues, has risen tremendously under the Obama administration and needs to be reined in.
Gray told The Daily Caller that the $1.4 billion spent on the Obama family last year is the “total cost of the presidency,” factoring the cost of the “biggest staff in history at the highest wages ever,” a 50 percent increase in the numbers of appointed czars and an Air Force One “running with the frequency of a scheduled air line.
The Daily Caller goes on to say:
Aside from a salary, the president gets a $50,000 a year expense account, a $100,000 travel account, $19,000 entertainment budget and an additional million for “unanticipated needs,” he notes.
Here is a sample of other pricey taxpayer funded perks exclusively reserved for the president:
The president can to appoint high-paid staffers without Senate confirmation: Obama has 469 senior staffers and 226 are paid more than $100,000 a year, according to the book. Seventy-seven are paid as much as $172,000 per year. He also has appointed 43 “czars.”
The president can vacation for free at Camp David: Gray writes that each round trip made to Camp David costs the taxpayers $25,350. It’s also estimated that the combined transportation and personnel costs for a Camp David visit are $295,000 per night.
The president has a full-time movie projectionist in the White House theater: Projectionists sleep at the White House and are there 24 hours a day in case anyone needs to see a movie. “Compared to the 450 times President Carter used the movie theater in his four years in the White House, the average American citizen, according to industry statistics, goes out to see a movie slightly less than five times a year,” Gray writes.
The president’s family’s gets certain travel and security expenses paid while vacationing: “First Lady Michelle Obama drew flack from the media and irate citizens when it was disclosed that, not counting Saturdays and Sundays, she spent 42 days on vacation — within the span of one year.”
The president’s dog gets its own high-paid staffer: “Bo made the news when he and his handler were flown to join the president on vacation in Maine,” Gray wrote about the Obama family dog. “It has been reported that the first family’s dog handler was paid $102,000, last year.”
